NEPA ESU Alumni Golf “Fun-Raiser” raises funds for ESU students

NEPA GOLF 2020

On Aug. 14, 2020, the annual Northeast PA ESU Alumni Summer “Fun-Raiser” Golf was held at the Mountain Laurel Golf Club in White Haven, Pa. The event was restricted to 10 foursomes due to policies of the venue and to ensure a safe, successful outing.  Forty Warrior alumni and friends attended and had a great day of golf, memories, camaraderie, and a steak dinner. Co-chairs Paul Scheuch ’71 M’77 and Frank Johnson ’74 were pleased with the level of success as those who participated raved about the course and the service provided by the staff. Huge thanks also goes to the ESU Office of Alumni Engagement for their support.

This was the first year the event was held at Mountain Laurel Golf Club after almost two decades at venues north of Scranton, Pa.  Located right off Route 80 at exit 274, the event was approximately 45 minutes from the ESU campus, Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Hazelton and parts of the Lehigh Valley.  Though this year’s outing was held to 40 participants, the co-chairs look to double that number in 2021.

The co-chairs indicated that the Northeast PA ESU Alumni Summer “Fun-Raiser” Golf Outing has proven itself to be a victory for everyone involved.  The price per golfer is set to attract golfers from all regions in Northeastern Pennsylvania.  Seventy-five dollars covers greens fees, cart, lunch, a beverage at the turn, prizes and a New York strip steak dinner. These fees, and $50 hole-sponsorships help provide two $1,000 scholarships to two incoming ESU freshmen who require financial assistance to attend ESU.  Due to this year’s scaled-back response, numerous individuals, ESU offices and departments, businesses and 12 directors of the ESU Alumni Association Board participated with over 30 sponsorships. This year’s event raised $2,455 for scholarships after proceeds and expenses.

The committee wants to spread the word for next year as they hope to expand the number of Warrior golfer participants and increase the amount raised.  The partnership between Mountain Laurel Golf Club and ESU looks to be a very positive one based on location, the beautiful venue, and the opportunity to share Warrior Pride with all alumni, family and friends.

Save the date for next year, Friday, August 13, 2021. GO WARRIORS!
